We are delighted to confirm Philippa Hanna and Vanquish will both join Rebecca Ferguson as support at the special intimate warm-up gig here in Margate on Friday 14th March 2014.
VANQUISH
If you wanna make a big bang in music you put together Lisa, Lucy, Becky & Sophia - light the blue touch paper and stand well back. Why? Vanquish are about explode. And that means what, precisely? In-your-face attitude, boundless energy and lots of fun – with tunes that are catchy, insanely contagious, and mesmerisingly full-on.
These four girls (18 to 22 years old) blow away any preconceived girl-band stereotypes with four individual great voices (yes, they can ALL sing) hypnotising harmonies, and energetic, dynamic performances. Vanquish are putting the fun into pop, and with personality to spare - it’s everything you want from a girlband, right?
Since July the girls have already performed to crowds of thousands across the UK, supporting acts such as Amelia Lily, Loveable Rogues, Blue and M.A.D. If you’re called ‘Vanquish’, you better walk the walk – and the girls are set to live up to their name as they aim to conquer the charts in the coming months.
Their single ‘Damn’ is set for release in March 2014, ahead of a summer single and an EP that will follow later that year. So what’s with the debut single ‘Damn’? Short form – it rocks! Long form - the track showcases the four band members, highlighting both their incredible vocal talent as well as their crazy young and energetic nature. And as for the chorus, it’s as infectious as they come, having proved an instant hit with live audiences across the UK, who sing along within seconds.
‘Damn’ allows Vanquish to inject their R’n’B influence, whilst the remix package boasts some impressive collaborations. Grammy-nominated remixer Mike Rizzo (Chris Brown, Keri Hilson) has provided a remix of the track, alongside remixes from Sunship (Cheryl Cole, Little Mix), The Jam Experience and Mark Wilkinson & Mikalis.
Vanquish have been fortunate to have had material created by some of the industry’s finest writers and producers including Jorgen Elofsson (Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears), Wayne Hector (Westlife, JLS) and Rob Davies (Kylie Minogue).
Philippa Hanna
Since the independent release of debut album Watching Me in 2007, Philippa Hanna has grown from her roots in the Gospel scene to be one of the UK’s most engaging and inspiring songwriters.
A tireless performer, her own tours take in over 150 dates each year. In 2012 she supported soul superstar Lionel Richie on his UK arena tour, a feat she repeated the following year opening for Wet Wet Wet as they took their greatest hits on the road. She has appeared on the mainstage of the Big Church Day Out, the UK's largest Christian Music event, and followed this appearance co-headlining the Big Church Night In tour with veteran hymn writer Stuart Townend.
Latest album Through the Woods was recorded at the legendary Steelworks Studios in Sheffield, and was completed with the help of a crowd-funding campaign that rasied over £14,000. Through the Woods was released in July to critical acclaim. She subsequently appeared on Good Morning Sunday with Clare Balding, playing tracks from the album, and has since seen her music championed by presenters Janice Long, Paul O’Grady, and Hardeep Singh Kohli.
Songs like I Am Amazing and Raggedy Doll have seen Philippa campaign for self-esteem in young people, and she is an advocate for children’s charity Compassion. Philippa published her second book, Following the Breadcrumbs, in 2013 - a moving account of her own journey of faith.
Philippa is currently undertaking her own tour, playing solo dates and shows with her backing band. Audiences can expect a night of intimate inspirational music, coupled with the singer's effortless storytelling style.
