Margate’s most terrifying event is set to return for its second year, and you can be one of its many spine-chilling stars! We are looking for performers to help us bring our guests’ worst nightmares to life this October. If you like all things ghoulish and gruesome, this is the ultimate chance for you to showcase your talent.

What can I expect?
As a Hellgate scare-actor, you will:
▸ Perform in scare mazes and scare zones
▸ Wear character costumes
▸ Wear masks or theatrical make-up
▸ Work through each event night in an energy-demanding role
What is the work environment like?
Hellgate scare-actors perform in scare mazes and scare zones within Margate Winter Gardens. You will find yourself working in spaces that are designed to evoke terror. There will be use of darkness, strobe-lighting, disturbing audio, smoke and other effects. Some areas are narrow and a little bit claustrophobic.These scare mazes and scare zones may be indoors or outdoors, so one should expect to work in a variety of temperatures.
What qualities do I need?
To be a scare-actor at Hellgate, you must act and be able to take direction. We are looking for individuals who are talented, versatile and enthusiastic.
You should also be in good physical health given scare mazes are physically demanding spaces to work in. You will need good stamina and endurance.
In addition, do consider the following before coming to audition:
▸ Are you afraid of the dark?
▸ Does the sight of blood (realistic paint, not real) affect you?
▸ Do you suffer from claustrophobia?
Experience in acting or scare-acting is preferred but absolutely not a requirement. Training and rehearsal time will be provided.

What are the event dates for Hellgate?
Public scare events run from Tuesday 27th – Saturday 31st October. Event staff will be required on site from 5.30pm till late each night.
What dates/times are actors required
Full rehearsal timetables will be released.
But you will most definitely be required on the dates:
Sunday 25th October – Afternoon & Evening.
Monday 26th October – 5pm – 10pm
Tuesday 27th October – 5.30pm – Late
Wednesday 28th October – 5.30pm – Late
Thursday 29th October – 5.30pm – Late
Friday 30th October – 5.30pm – Late
Saturday 31st October – 5.30pm – Late
When are the costume fittings?
Full details will be confirmed.
Will I be paid?
Our qualified candidates will be paid, details of which will be offered if you are successful in the audition process.
When will I be informed if I have been selected?
Offers will be made within two weeks of the audition.
What are the eligibility requirements?
UK residents / those with a valid UK working permit are eligible.
Is there an age limit?
Candidates must be aged 16 and above. Anyone under the age of 18 and successful, we will require your parents’ consent before taking you onboard.
How do I prepare for Hellgate Audition?
Come ready to scare. It might help to have a character in mind. Research, and think about how you would like to convince us with your performance. Think Zombies, although other scares are more than welcome.
I have a special talent (i.e. fire breathing or stilts) I want to show, but I am not sure if it will be relevant for Hellgate.
We love talent, come on and show it to us, leave the rest of the thinking for later!

Yes, absolutely!
