Margate Theatres Open Day

The Theatre Royal and Margate Winter Gardens will be throwing open their doors for very one special day of celebration, exploration and fun!

Ever wondered what it’s like to stand on a Georgian stage and look up at the Gallery?

Want to see the tunnels that the Beatles used to flee from their fans way back in 1963?

Well you can do both!

Dating from 1786, the Theatre Royal is the second oldest working theatre in the country and is both intimate in scale and grand in design. The stalls, circle and lofty gallery will be open for you to discover and backstage tours by our knowledgeable technical staff will be available.

Our centenary exhibition will be on display in the Winter Gardens, charting the history of this magnificent building from 1911, which includes visits from famous names such as Winston Churchill, Laurel and Hardy, Danny la Rue and of course The Beatles. And here too, you can take a glimpse backstage on one of our tours.

Free refreshments – and the Winter Gardens bar will be open for light meals.

Free entry and no need to book – just come along and join in the fun.
