Margate Soul Festival is Kent’s signature soul music festival held in and around the picturesque Margate Harbour and Promenade adjacent to the sands of Margate beach.

Taking place annually on the first weekend of August each year, Margate Soul Festival offers a unique combination of ticketed large-scale live shows, free to access family friendly street performances, and the most eclectic mix of club nightlife. Spread across the creative Old Town, our selection of venues cater for a wide range of musical tastes, each with their own special atmosphere, creating the best soul inspired festival in the country.

Ages: On our free to access sites, The Old Town, families are welcome as long as the accompanying adult (s) remain in full supervision of the children.

In our ticketed event arenas a child or children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult aged 21 yrs or older. ID must be provided and both must be in possession of a valid pass.

Arrested Development

Trailblazers, Arrested Development have spread consciousness and musicality around the globe since 1991. Their dance smash; “People Everyday” paid homage to Sly & the Family Stone. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

Candi Staton

Four-time Grammy® Award nominated singer Candi Staton celebrates the 40th and 30th anniversaries respectively of her two biggest radio hits “Young Hearts Run Free” and 1986’s “You Got The Love. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

The Blackbyrds

Legendary RnB and Jazz Funk band The Blackbyrds formed by legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd and Keith Killgo responsible for musical gold hits such as; “Walking in Rhythm," "Rock Creek Park," and "Happy Music”. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

Joe Bataan

The originator of the New York Latin soul style that paralleled Latin boogaloo and anticipated disco with hits such as ‘Gypsy Woman”, The Bottle’ and ‘Call My Name”. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

MF Robots

Jan Kincaid and Dawn Joseph, formally of The Brand New Heavies, Britain’s finest purveyors of funk, return with their new super group Music For Robots and bring the familiar and uplifting jazz-funk sound back with a vengeance. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.

Trevor Nelson

Pioneer in the urban scene and award winning DJ, Trevor Nelson MBE joins the Margate Soul Festival line up for 2017 playing a set of guaranteed old skool R&B classics. 

Gerardo Frisina

Italian-born, Latin, Brazilian and Jazz aficionado Gerardo Frisina has had underground credibility as a DJ, Producer and Label Owner for over 30 years. Part of Margate Soul Festival 2017.
